Stupid Birdstone
How long do we have to wait for another Triple Crown winner...for fuck's sake!
Download or listen to a cover of Close to Me over at the Captains of Industry page. Check out the crisp vocals through the MLK 990, and that hopping bass recorded directly through the ART Studio Tube Pre-Amp.

Fahrenheit 9/11
This movie trailer is rough. Bush looks like a bad man. I mean this looks rough.
In other news I am excited to get my preamp. I will continue the work on CBR when I get it. For now. I will just sit and wait to hear from schools which don't seem in any hurry to get back to me about job openings. Speaking of that....any news from Duffee?

HOT FREAKS!!!!
So entirely happy with my recent purchases that I am reccomending them highly to you, Dave as you move forward with Comic Book Rock. The MLK 990 Condensor Mic sounds beautiful so far after just testing it on some acoustic and electric guitar as well as the melodica. The melodica and acoustic guitars were two things I always thought sounded like ass when I recorded them. With this mic they come through loud and mother fucking clear. However, the mic would not work without the ART Tube Mic Pre-Amp the pre-amp provides the condensor mic with the 48v of phantom power it needs to operate. However, you can also plug bass and keyboards directly into this thing and then into your computer both of which also sounded great when I tryed them out. With the pre-amp you can also throw a shit load of gain on anything you want basically giving it warm, creamy tube amp distortion. So Crane when you want to go Crazy with the wicked distortion on the vocals you don't need to run it through the amp anymore you can do it with this baby. It's fucking amazing and I'm convince it will revolutionize the Captains of Industry sound...only time will tell though. The best thing is that you can go to musiciansfriend.com and get the two together for $120 right now. Crane, the way you used to spend money that's just like a drop in the bucket.
Ben - good dinner and beers last night...always a good time.
Brad - When are you and me and ben going to hang out?
Crane - How much weight have you lost on the South Beach Diet so far?

RELAX
just trying to get a rise out of you bradley. like those band names.
its been too long since i've seen a show too. should try to find something.
once again crane is making up bands. seriously, where are you finding the time to discover these bands let a lone listen to them enough to make a statement as bold as "best song of the last 30 years"? and on top of that you're recording music and playing live gigs. what the hell am i doing with my time?!?! i think i need to reevaluate my life.
bcw has encountered more technical difficulties. smashed computer screen. this has kind of soured my mood in general, sapped my creative energy and has postponed release of any bcw material indefinitely. definitely in a wierd state of mind these past few days. rollercoaster. in related news, bcw investigating possibilities of relocating operations to ghana...
on another related note, i've been feeling ill the past couple days. first thought it was allergies, then lack of sleep, now i think its a cold. probably all three. i still plan on keeping our date later tho duffy. may cut out o here early and take a nap before.

Chill out with the bickering....
Hey, you guys must be camping because you are getting.... intense.
So, I think it would be infinitely more interesting to hear show reviews....rather than you guys dis Brad's lack of blogging wherewithawal.??? Really, I don't know how to spell that.
I have fallen for the Fiery Furnaces. Tropical Iceland is possibly the best song of the last 30 years.
I recorded part of a demo for the "Theme to Comic Book Rock." It is Boat's finest...no grandest hour. It will lead off Comic Book Rock. It features more Wurlitzer playing than any other Boat track....ever. It sounds like a show tune. I am practicing piano skills and taking cello lessons. Speaking of the proposed tracklisting.
1) Theme to COMICBOOKROCK
2) Ferocious Sounds of Lobsters and Snakes
3) When I Take a Walk
4) The Past Is a Bummer
5) Every Time I Build
6) Sailor Surplus
7) Jeep Star
You don't even have a fucking cup for your water.
Listen to Frog Eyes. It is cool as well. The singer looks like Phillip Seymour Hoffman.....and he shrieks and spits like a fiend.
I am playing a show with Upstate (hokey press photo---improving musically band) tonight. We are playing the Graceland by Seattle Center. I have seen the Walkmen and Shins there. It should be cool to play a show at a legitimate place.
Until then,
Rod Kosabuenas

HEY NOW. BE F'In NICE
The only way you get to sniff the air of everybody's ego's is if you wait awhile after making your textual debut. Actually that's bullshit I just haven't made it to a computer with proper time to prepare the feast. My solo work will most likely come under the nature sensual, "walking stick" which I know has absolutely no rock n' roll bite to it at all, or the spontaneous shake the wand, "Doctor Parasol". But, as I haven't retrieved my four track from a friend yet it may be a bit before I get to suck on audio. So, Why is it that the guy not in chicago is telling the guys in chicago that he has been to see all of these bands. I believe that this needs to be a motivator for the likes of the present chicagoans, any suggestions, I haven't seen the reader this week? Anyway as far as the ,music session tomorrow night enjoy fellas. My song will be delivered by the end of the week, and recorded at a time when the equip is available and my hands are not shaking. Cheers to you all, brad

Pudding Pop Rock
7 o'clock it is.
New mic coming tomorrow + pre-amp on Friday + Jordan's friend in town for the weekend = no less than one original and one cure cover by Captains of Industry to be available for dowload no later than Tuesday.
If anyone wants to post mp3s here you can try to email them to me and I can post them.
What's the street date on the first BCW release? Is Brad going to have his own band or is he a member of the BCW collective. Because if he's his own entity he needs to think of a kick-ass band name like the rest of us. Plus then i can add him to the Oh No Disaster! roster.

Hey if you put your cursor over the pictures at the top of the page look in the status bar at the bottom of your browser to see what fun things it says.
I started running to get in shape for a soccer tournament I'm supposed to play in this month and my legs feel like they may fall off at any time.
Ben... Brad... Songs?
Gotta go watch Jeopardy as part of my training for my auditon...

you can post mp3s
you can try to upload it from the blogger website...it might take a long time or not work at all, but you can try. if it's an mp3 that's already on the internet you can put a link to it here by clicking on the link button, the globe with the chain link, and then put the web address of it in your post, or you can go to geocities.com sign in as luckytobealivemusic with the password dukesrule and then upload the mp3 there to the website.
i'm working on a cover of "close to me" by the cure right now, to get my ear in tune before i start work on the summer recording challenge, it's pretty much finished, I'll post it here when it's done.
ben, i want my bass back soon, i've been itching for it.
ben and brad, pick a song for god's sake.

Pre-amps and Mixers
A pre-amp is supposed to take some of the fuzz noise you get when putting just a mic directly into the sound card on your computer and give you a warmer sort of analog "tube" sounding recording. You can also use it to play keyboards or bass or whatever straight into your computer, like a direct box would, because it provides the power an amp would. You can also use it to boost the input of your mic and add gain to whatever you're sending through it.
As far as a mixer, the only reason I would get that is to record from more than one mic at the same time for drums. If you had four mics you could put one down by the bass, and then the other three placed over the set, one by the hi-hat and snare another in between the toms and another in between the cymbal and floor tom, then you could adjust the levels of each mic through the mixer to get the kind of drum sound you want, and then when you run the mixer from the pre-amp it should help cut out any interference noise that the mixer might make.

Questions and Comments.
Brad....welcome to the blog. Seriously, you and Ben have to pick some songs.
I have been to 3 shows this week. This is a big deal for me. I haven't seen that many shows lately. I saw Built To Spill on Friday in Bellingham. They were very good....but seemed kind of bored. One of their new songs was amazing. They didn't play Twin Falls but did play 5 songs off There's Nothing Wrong With Love. They opened with "The Plan," and followed it up with "Car."
I saw Destroyer and the Fiery Furnaces last night. Destroyer was very cool. So was Frog Eyes....his back up band. The Fiery Furnaces were pretty awesome. They played their whole album and new songs all mashed together as a medley. They didn't stop playing for fifty minutes straight. They were impressive live. You guys should check them and the Shins out in June.
Duffy, what does a preamp do......why should I get a mixer.....please detail what they do and how they work. I want to know they will improve the Audiostudio sound before I make the purchase.
So, yeah....I am still waiting to hear about my teaching future. How about Duffy?
Have you guys taken any baths lately? I haven't.
Fondly,
Reginald P. Ignoramus.

Yes, you do need a title
Just got back from seeing a Braid reunion show...it was weird...good, but weird. I was with Jordan because my friend Nate cancelled (with good reason) at the last moment. That was the first weird part, since almost every Braid show I had been to prior had been with Nate. Secondly, I was up on the balcony and in the back, whereas every other Braid show I have been to I have gotten to early enough to be front and center (granted the last show they played was 5 years ago). Made me feel kind of old.
For Brad: Architects of Sunshine by Captains of Industry. Right click to download, left click to listen to (if you're on a PC...I have no clue how those fuckin' Macs work so don't ask).
